Ep. 104 - Get a Life - Make Marriage and Business Simple Again

This topic has been recommended by Kay Lee. She tells me that one of my gifts is making the complex simple. It’s true. I can’t stand complexity. Plus, from a practical level, the more complicated things are the more chances things can go wrong and the harder it is to be successful.

And when it comes to our lives as married entrepreneurs, the reason our life seems out of balance is because we have too much going on. Our life is complicated. From our business to our personal lives, we keep saying yes to everything and then we try to juggle it all.

It’s time to take our life back by making our marriage and business more simple. So this episode is dedicated to you. The married entrepreneur that wants to simplify your life. Not only will your life be more simple but successful too.

Key Takeaways:

  • When life happens, this is what you get

  • How did our life get so complicated?

  • Lack of intention

  • We get married and just live. No vision, no purpose, no dreams, no boundaries

    • Live the day to day with no boundaries- Volunteer, have parties, get a house, just do

  • We start a business and just put everything into making it successful

  • We bring our work home

  • We put more time in to make it grow

  • We add more products/services

  • Throw more into it

  • How do we make our business simple? Less is more

  • Owner doing less and team taking on more responsibility- Do less

  • If you can’t delegate more than you just need to say no to things

    • Customers. If you can’t fulfill it it’s not worth doing

    • Emails. Prioritize response. Only check set times of the day

    • Don’t respond to every “emergency”

  • Simplify the business model- Do less

    • Sell less variety and do well with what you have (in n out, Chick fil a)

    • Raise your prices so you can earn more with less customers

    • Shorten business hours- Retailers, restaurants - saves on some overhead and labor. Drives business to less time

    • Select the demand you want to supply! - Not every customer needs to be your customer. Service business- it’s ok to be selective. Retailers- They don’t always need to have it their way. Don’t need to reach everyone or satisfy everyone. Sushi nazi.

  • How do we simplify our marriage?

  • Do less

  • Say no to more things

  • Prioritize your calendar- put you first, fill in the rest, block out time for rest

  • Communicate and be on the same page with what you want in life in the present and future
